Savvy Rest is very curious about sleep—and about people, too. From time to time, we ask interesting folks these questions to give you a peek at how others sleep...even what they’re dreaming about.
How did you feel when you woke up this morning?
Surprisingly good. I have sleep issues so with a change in weather or any disturbance like noise or light, I don’t sleep well. Lately I’ve been taking a couple of melatonin tablets. But this morning, I feel great!
Can you remember a dream fragment?
Last night I dreamed I was trying to raise an issue for some attention from our CEO and overheard staff members talking about something that was inaccurate. So I was feeling anxiety about that.
What’s the first thing you did when you got up (after the bathroom)?
Other than showering, brushing my teeth and getting dressed, I prayed with my wife. We pray every morning. It helps me focus on what’s important.
What do you like most about mornings?
It’s so fresh when you first step outside and the heat and humidity haven’t hit yet. The day’s full of promise, anything could happen! And if it has rained, the streets are glistening.
What do you like least?
My commute. I travel for about an hour into DC. It’s shuffling onto commuter trains, the Metro, and all that that entails. Especially when other people are agitated, they’re late, and elbowing you off, it doesn’t leave me feeling too kindly about my fellow man.
If you could change one thing about your bedroom, what would it be?
I’d change my bed to something better. I bought a black-label mattress made with alpaca wool, supposed to be the best of the best, but it’s not for me. Because it was so darn expensive my wife is insisting we get at least 10 years out of the bed—so I’ve got six more years to suffer.
When was the best sleep you’ve ever had?
Maybe on holiday in the Fiji islands where there was nothing to do, the stress of work was gone, I was just blissed out. The beach was just feet from the door of the hut we were in…..
I’ve had a number. Recently I couldn’t get to sleep so I got up after two hours and ended up still awake at 3am, and then my sleep was restless for the few hours I got before I had to get up at 7:00. I’ll have sand in my eyes and feel emotionally unstable. Normally that’s a good cue to call in and not go to work because I’ll get short with people or say something stupid.
What would you like to hear to tuck you in, other than “Night-night”?
My wife tells me she loves me every night before we go to sleep. That’s pretty cool!
