Every body is different. If our recommended combinations don’t feel right for you, it’s perfectly reasonable to build something unusual — for example, all three layers the same firmness. Uncommon doesn’t mean wrong; it just means most customers didn’t land there. If you’re drawn to a less-common build, reach out to our customer service team before ordering.

Some combinations — like a firm top layer over softer layers, or a soft bottom layer — tend to feel unsupportive or create pressure points for most sleepers. Sleep on it for up to 90 nights. If a single layer isn’t working, swap that one layer for a different firmness or latex type. You cover return shipping on the layer you send back. Upgrading a layer from Dunlop to Talalay also has a fixed exchange fee — $250 for Twin and Twin XL, $450 for all other sizes. Firmness changes, and switching Talalay back to Dunlop, are shipping only (no fee, no refund). Either way, you fine-tune without replacing the whole mattress.

On Queen and larger sizes, every layer is built as two pieces side by side — split down the middle. In fact, the vast majority of our mattresses ship split even when both sides are identical: it makes a larger mattress far easier to assemble and carry upstairs, and it lets you swap one partner’s layer later without disturbing the other side. You won’t feel the split — there’s no gap or ridge down the center. And when partners sleep differently, each side can have its own firmness or latex at no extra cost.
