Difference Between Twin and Twin XL Mattress

In the market for either a Twin or Twin XL mattress but having a hard time choosing? These two mattress sizes are actually very similar but with one major difference: the length.
This blog post will include information on dimensions while establishing who should shop for a Twin or Twin XL in the first place. Let’s dive in!
A Twin size mattress is shorter in length compared to a Twin XL mattress. However, both mattresses have the same width so they are both excellent options for bedrooms that are not very wide. This is why they are quite popular in dorm rooms or children’s bedrooms.
Twin: 38” width x 74” length
Twin XL: 38” width x 80” length
We’ve included below some popular questions to consider.
A Twin mattress is best for a small child or adult who has a bedroom that is no larger than 8 feet by 10 feet. This allows for enough room for bedroom furniture as well.
A Twin XL mattress is best for a taller child or adult because a Twin XL mattress is approximately 6 inches longer than a Twin mattress. It is also best for those who are using an adjustable bed frame and want the size of a King mattress but with two separate beds put together (this would be two Twin XL mattresses). This allows for each side of the bed to move on its own.
No, Twin sheets will not be long enough for a Twin XL mattress.
Yes! Twin XL sheets can be found anywhere that sheets are sold.
While it is technically possible for two people to fit, a Twin or Twin XL mattress will not be comfortable enough for a couple due to the limited width of the mattress. We recommend at least a Full mattress, but most couples opt for either a Queen or a King mattress. This allows for plenty of individual space when it is time to sleep, which is especially helpful to those who sleep hot.
Yes! Twin and Twin XL mattresses are typically less expensive than larger sizes due to their smaller dimensions. They are a more affordable option for those on a tight budget.
We recommend a Twin XL mattress for a teenager, especially if they are on the taller side. However, if you are willing to invest a bit more, a Full or Queen size would give a teenager more room and will be a mattress that can also work for them when they are a full grown adult. However, keep in mind the size of the bedroom. If the bedroom is more than 8 feet x 10 feet, you may want to stick to a Twin XL.
